SO much to do, so little time! I find my self sometimes wishing the Earth’s revolution was a bit slower as to allow extra hours in the day! No time to wait around for that to happen though.
Between all the hobbies, interests, work, and of course time with family and friends, there seems never to be enough time to for anything. Hence I’ve tried to make the most of my time by multitasking, prioritizing, and forever trying to become more efficient.
Here is my short list of things I do to get more things done.
Podcasts during commute
Unfortunately I spend a good amount of time commuting to work (between 1 hour to 3 hours a day, depending on traffic). While listening to music on the radio helps pass time, with such a busy schedule, I’d often rather use that time somehow constructively. I found that listening to podcasts while driving made time pass more quickly, while also allowing me to learn a lot in my area of expertise. (I can recommend The Tech Guy, Security Now, Manager Tools).
Working in bed?
What? How does this help!?!?! Well, at least in my case, it does. By working in bed, I can be next to my wife and talk with her while still getting a little bit of work/reading done.
To Do Lists and Task Schedulers
While this will initially in fact occupy more time, it will eventually make you more efficient and reliable, allowing you to achieve more in less time. For more information, please refer to my post about getting organized using these tools.
Less Sleep
While this goes against what science says, I find myself trying to sleep a bit less in order to have more time to do stuff. While I like to sleep, it just feels like such a waste of time. I’ll sleep plenty when I’m dead! Of course, a lot of people can shave some sleep without sacrificing health. If you’re sleeping 10 hours a day, you’re wasting time. (I try to sleep between 6.5 and 7 hours a night).
Shared Interests
For those married people, finding some hobby you both enjoy together can save time in that you’re spending quality time together and spending time on your interests.
These are a few of my ideas that I practice daily to try to make the most of my time.
